New Website! I'm so excited to finally launch my brand new website and logo! I hope it makes you feel warm, sweet and magical. Make yourself at home!

Is 3 the new 2? Why I chose to have 3 kiddos

It seems like everywhere I look, there are families with three kids or two with another on the way. Not so long ago, I thought there was no way that could ever be me. I was of the “two hands; two kids” or “two of us; two of them” philosophy. Boy, was I surprised to discover that I actually wanted a third baby!

We had nearly completed our renovation when my husband and I were looking at our soon-to-be new mudroom closet that had 4 little cubbies – one for each of us. I remember joking with him that we couldn’t have any more kids because there were only four spaces. Oops.
It wasn’t until having a bit of a pregnancy scare while my best friend and her three little ones were staying with us that I realized, “Wait a minute?! Why am I disappointed about this?” By the next summer, we welcomed our third, beautiful baby girl to our family.

And you know what? I couldn’t be happier. I am so in love and I feel so fortunate. Having said that, now I KNOW that I am done. Done, done, done. I love my three girls to pieces but the toll that this last pregnancy took on my not-so-young-anymore body not to mention the logistics of having three five-and-unders on the other side… well, let’s just say when you know, you know.

I remember my dear friend’s brother who also has three kids say, “the world is not made for a family of five!” Vacations, dinner reservations, automobiles… you name it. But you never know, now that there are so many families who are able to and choosing to have three – maybe that will change?

An unexpected bonus? Having three certainly makes for some pretty fantastic family photographs. Taking my own newborn photographs…not so easy breezy, but I’ll save that for another blog post!

I’m currently booking sessions for 2018 – if you’re thinking of getting some pretty fantastic family photographs yourself, get in touch!

xx L

The Mother of All Blog Posts

Well I may as well just come right out and tell you – I’m expecting babe numero deux! Due in just a couple of months and we couldn’t be more thrilled!

Bump Photo

Insta photo from our little Montreal babymoon…

To celebrate, I’m including 50 custom 5×7 cards (with matching envelopes) with every full session booked by June 30th  any time during the entire month of October (when I am back in action!). This will be first come, first served as I will only be taking on a maximum of 4 sessions! The cards can be newborn or birthday announcements, notecards, or of course – holiday cards! Here are a few examples:

Birth Announcements Lisa Tait Photography

Lisa Tait Photography will also be going through a bit of a re-birth, if you will. Over the next several months (the last before the babe and the next couple on the other side), I’ll be diligently working behind the scenes – building yet another new baby of my own – a new website and a whole new look and feel for Lisa Tait Photography. It will be an evolution of what you have already come to love and expect – and it will be even better! Those of you on my newsletter list have already seen a sneak peak of my new logo – and there is so much more to come… You know what they say – evolve or perish! 🙂

This also means that we won’t be booking any new clients from now through the beginning of September – and we expect to book up once the fall hits so now is the time to get that family session you’ve been thinking about in the calendar!

In the meantime, have an incredible summer everyone! May it be filled with sunshine, watermelon and lazy afternoons by the water.

xoxo Lisa

Top 7 Easter Books for Tots

One of our favourite things to do as a family is read, read, read and having a few themed books around at Easter time is really lovely. Also a wonderful idea for a candy-free Easter Bunny delivery. I’ve put together a list of my 7 favourites – there is still time to pick one up before the big day…

Easter Books for Toddlers

Top 7 Easter Books for Tots
Some are about Easter and some are just great stories featuring long-eared leads, some are classics and some feature new heroes.…but they are all great to snuggle up with your littles and enjoy. In order of original publication date:

  1. The Tale of Peter Rabbit (1902) – the classic fable of a mischievous rabbit and his wild neighbours by Beatrix Potter
  2. The Velveteen Rabbit: Or How Toys Become Real (1922) by Margerey Williams – need I say more?
  3. The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes By Du Bose Heyward – this story was originally written in 1939 and features a very progressive young, female bunny who dreams of becoming the Easter bunny in a world full of male bunny competition. Pretty rad. (thanks to Uncle Bruce for introducing me to this one!)
  4. The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown (1942) – a sort of prequel to the infamous Goodnight Moon, this is the story of a mother’s love – and we all know how deep that runs!
  5. Any of the Miffy books by dutch author Dick Bruna – the first published in 1955 (Miffy the Artist is my personal fave – published in 2008 by the Tate Gallery in London)
  6. The Knuffle Bunny trilogy by Mo Willems (2004) – the stories and innovative illustrations are so awesome you won’t mind reading them 3 times in a row!
  7. Pete the Cat and the Big Easter Adventure (2014, by James Dean – not that James Dean) – my daughter loves the rhyming songs of the Pete the Cat stories (it doesn’t hurt that he looks just like our kitty Cleo). I’ll come clean – we actually haven’t ready this one yet (but it’s in the mail!) but if it as good as the other’s we have read, I know it will be another gem.

This is my top 7 – what would you add?

xoxo Lisa

In the News (Hint: O baby!)

Well it’s been ages since I’ve posted anything (things have been bi-zee!) but at least I’m coming back strong…

Oprah Magazine

I’m thrilled to let you know that an image of mine has been featured in O Magazine (yep – O as in Oprah!).  O baby, I might faint -it’s all just so sudden 🙂  Back in November a friend of mine asked me to help her out with some last-minute images of her new (and very cool) non-profit, The Kitchen Library.  Seems she had a call from Oprah’s people and they wanted to feature her non-profit in the magazine – and of course they needed images.  I popped in to take some some quick pics of Dayna and her fabulous Kitchen Library – we had a blast and I may have gotten carried away taking shots not only of the beautiful founder but also her shiny, pretty kitchen tools (especially that iconic Kitchen Aid).  She has recently moved her Library uptown into a handsome new space which presented only a couple of lighting obstacles.  I’m happy to report that we worked through them to create some lovely images and the rest is history!

The Kitchen Library

The Kitchen Library is getting lots of press which means that my images have also been featured in a few other publications including The Yonge Street Media blog as well as Femme in the City – with more to come.  Not to shabby.  Thanks, Dayna!

Kitchen Aid

If you haven’t already, you should definitely check out The Kitchen Library.  Living in the city with little space, it’s an incredible resource full of new appliances that you may not have room for (in either space or budget!).  It functions much like a regular library: for a small fee you can purchase a membership that allows you to sign out a variety of lovely and useful kitchen tools and appliances.  Pretty rad.  Look out Vitamix, here I come!

Best Image Contest: Madhüs Mini Sessions

Welcome to the Madhüs Mini Session Exhibition – blog version! This show features 6 local families who took part in a series of short lifestyle photography sessions at Madhüs on October 4th, 2014 .

The images emphasize childhood wonder and evoke the happy and relaxed vibe that people enjoy in this welcoming space. The little ones took the Fender Rhodes for a test drive, banged on wooden drums and snapped imaginary photographs of their own. They loved having musical instruments and toy cameras to inspire their activities, which underscores the pivotal role that the arts & arts education play in shaping the imaginations of young + old alike.

Creative activities are in fact some of the building blocks of child development. Some of the developmental benefits of art and music include: strengthened language development, improved academic performance and increased communication, problem-solving, social, spatial-temporal and fine motor skills… to name just a few.

Thank you for taking the time to view these images and to support local businesses!

Love what you see? Let us know which one is your fave + why in the comments at the bottom of this post and earn curatorial bragging rights as well the happiness that comes from participation in a local art happening!

The contest will run until Sunday, November 9th and the image with the most happy comments at the end will win the grand prize including a host of goodies from these local businesses:

Tough decision!! For sure. I had to come back and re-evaluate before being able to choose! In theory I pick ALL of them as I think they’re all really beautiful and emotive captures of these muffins – but, since have to choose one, my vote goes to AET. I love the whimsical, happy yet contemplative look on her face – wise beyond her years 🙂 I also like how the lights behind her are kind of reflected (even though not the same lights!) by the lights in her eyes 🙂 beautiful work Lisa!!ReplyCancel
